I know what you mean, Melissa, but intercutting Curtis's points about the substance vacuum in modern "play" technology with comments by a proprietor of said technology -- I presumed that was an intentional juxtaposition? Or am I looking for wry commentary where none was intended? Either way, great podcast, I'm sharing it with virtual friends right now, via the same narcissistic social networking technology Curtis brilliantly skewered...

Well, he's reached the same conclusion, and he's still having problems with rights issues it would appear. I feel like such a dinosaur, going on about copyright when the Internet-at-large basically doesn't give a toss about intellectual property. Only today I had to write a tough email about some rights that a co-producer declined to buy, and is now in a bit of a fix.

Hi Adam. Have you seen the other Adam's blog, and the It Felt Like a Kiss project he talked about in the podcast? In terms of telling stories and going beyond broadcast TV, both are very interesting. Charlie Brooker wrote about them both last year.

The Adam Curtis stuff was compelling. I can't help but think that Curtis needs to move on from broadcast TV. His trademark bricolage style of story-telling is beautiful and entertaining, but because of all the problems of licensing this material for wider use, it becomes an ephemeral lightning-flash of genius instead of becoming the milestone on the Road to Enlightenment. As broadcast TV becomes less and less relevant, how will Curtis find his audience? The Power of Nightmares is propped up by loads of awards and still isn't available on DVD.
