This week we are joined by Russell Davies (the author and organiser of the Interesting conferences) and discover that he was once in a band.
We also hear from Karen (wife and nightly documenter of the infamous Sleep Talkin' Man) and eat some festive snacks with Dave Green.

Partly so you can hear what people are saying as well as what we look like. Partly to see if I can get video working in the podcast.

This week's tester episode. Offcuts, out-takes and leftovers to tease and entice.
Our special guest next week is the internet's Russell Davies. Russell organises London's most Interesting conference every year (2007, 2008, 2009), writes a column in Wired UK and is part of the Really Interesting Group. His interview is brilliant and there's loads of great stuff to come next week; today's offcuts give just a sense of where our conversation goes. Did you know he was in a band? Tune in next week to hear all about it. We'll also be talking to Karen Slavick about her excellent Sleep Talkin Man blog. Essentially, she writes down her husbands obscene and bizarre sleep ramblings which is every bit as funny as it sounds.
Included in this tester are some bits of both interviews we won't get around to using in the full episode next Thursday, plus the remnants of the South African snack testing with Robert Brook and Dave Green. That's the end of the South African snacks now. It's nearly Christmas after all, so the next two or three episodes will become decidedly more festive. You'll also notice that we've finally got a theme tune; In Computers by Robyn Wilder and her band Bambino Special. Hope you like it as much as we do. I can't stop humming it. As well as this tester episode, you've hopefully already seen the video outtakes Leila edited from this week's recording session (you finally get to see how adorably shambolic the whole process really is).
As always, subscribe to the podcast for free to make sure you don't miss an episode. Subscribers to our Twitter feed will also be aware that we're currently running a competition with an actual prize and everything.

Here are some bits we recorded last night to give a flavour of what's to come next week in episode 5. A pre-tester tester, in video form. Expect the usual mini-episode tester on Thursday which will reveal more. You're seeing Russell Davies (with the beard) Dave Green (with the snacks), Leila (the female one) and Roo (the other one).
Do you like the song? We're very excited to be previewing our new Shift Run Stop theme tune. It's called "In Computers" and is by Robyn Wilder and her band Bambino Special. Yay.

This week we meet the popular internet and TV stars Helen Zaltzman and Olly Mann and ask them about their Answer Me This podcast, Robert Brook and Dave Green taste more South African Snacks with us, Leila, Dave and Tom discuss a film (warning: there might be spoilers, though only if you can work out what the film is) and we discover what the insides of some things sound like.

Bonus challenge 1: we'll give something nice to the first person to email us or DM us with evidence that they've successfully run the computer program.
Bonus challenge 2: want to be on the podcast? A bit too shy? How about recording the inside of your fridge, or another appliance instead? Send us MP3s of your own recordings and we'd love to share them with the world.

This one contains outtakes of David Quantick (a few spare bits that didn't make it into last week's episode, as it seemed a shame to waste them), as well as bits from our interview with Helen Zaltzman and Olly Mann from (Helen & Olly's) Answer Me This! (pictured on the left there) that won't make it into next week's episode. That's how good it's going to be; these bits have already been dropped. Imagine that.
Also, you can now email us at our fancy new email address, podcast@shiftrunstop.co.uk and, as ever, chat with us on Twitter and subscribe to the podcast in iTunes. Enjoy.
