Lewis Dartnell is an astrobiologist with an impressive track record in science and broadcasting. Lewis was a Fame Lab finalist last year and is now a regular at the Royal Institution. He's written for the latest issue of Focus magazine and his work's even turned up on Have I Got News For You! So he's everywhere, basically. Here Lewis tells us about his applied physics solution to the "gold dilemma" at the end of The Italian Job, and we brave some Chinese snacks courtesy of our jet-setting listener Liam.
Comedian and columnistShazia Mirza drops in for a chat this week and we have a great time hearing about her former life as science teacher, her experience of playing the Edinburgh Festival, and what her parents think about what she does...
Dave's similarly-voiced brother Simon joins us too, fresh from the Games Developer's Conference in San Francisco and reviews 2012 from a fluid renderer's point of view, while Dave finds out what the Easter Bunny has... brought? Laid?
Don't miss what's arguably the highlight of this episode: your hosts' attempts to explain Star Wars and Star Trek to each other from fragments of pieced-together memories and folklore.
We're still the only podcast that you can buy on cassette, and we're now on the third week of our month-long Audible offer. Download yourself a free audio book by clicking here. You can even donate if you think we're worth it.
We're honoured to be joined by the acclaimed comedian and columnist Shazia this week, who tells us about getting into comedy while working as a science teacher, the perils of writing about her parents and being recognised... not always as yourself.
This episode will go live on iTunes (and on this blog) on Thursday April 1st. See you then!
It's 25 years of Back to the Future! To celebrate, we're joined by the geeky and innovative stand-up comic, Paul Kerensa, whose 2005 Edinburgh show "Back to the Futon" involved a real-life DeLorean and a Gray's Sports Almanacful of in-jokes. Since then Paul's been focused on collecting and comparing every moment in time from every film ever between gigging, script-writing, podcasting, and working on a new, free, Edinburgh show for 2010. He even brings some BTTF props in to show us. Great Scott!
Elsewhere in good ole' 1955, we find Dave in Lou's Cafe or somewhere with 1.21 gigawatts of sugary drinks; your hosts continue to flog this podcast on cassette, and we enter week two of our month-long Audible offer. Download yourself a free audio book by clicking here and help us to save the clock tower.
Paul Kerensa is a geeky stand-up comedian. He wowed Edinburgh a few years ago with his Back to the Future-themed show "Back to the Futon", one of the most fun things ever accomplished. But he's been entertaining the online world for years with his various obsessions, which range from collecting and comparing every moment in time from every film ever to building a comedy Tube map.
Paul shares his love of films and details of his brand new Edinburgh show, and we all revel in the undisputed greatness of Back to the Future.
This episode will be coming to an mp3 player near you on Thursday the 25th of March.
Also in this episode, SRS's snacks-loving pal Dave brings a range of mainly-acceptable biscuits for sampling, Leila goes to an exhibition involving live birds at London's Barbican and Roo tries to hold it together to do the links while out of his tree on beer and codeine.
